Marshside Mama's Beach Bar
Marshside Mama's, on Daufuskie Island, is listed as one of America's Best Beach Bars by Travel and Leisure 2011. "Our bar is like Canterbury Tales. There’s a little bit of everything." With a menu that includes the freshest of fish from the local fishermen's catch of the day to its live bands on weekends, Marshside Mama’s Café represents everything that’s good and fun in true Lowcountry style.
The restaurant seats about 60, with plenty of additional tables outside under the trees with views of the New River. Known for its delicious shrimp, gumbo, and grits, Marshside Mama's has a white board menu that is created daily. Throughout the evening, as dinners are served, items begin to disappear from the board so head in early for best choices. In true Daufuskie fashion, plan for an unhurried evening as each dish is individually prepared.
When dinner is done, the tables and chairs are moved out to make room for the dancing and when owner Beth Shipman may give her infamous yell out, “No whining, just dance." Marshside Mama’s website says "Come for the food, stay for the fun..." and you'll definately want to stay as the entertainment here is as eclectic as the decor, ranging from Grateful Dead covers to Blues Bands.
